Ecco il testo con annessa traduzione:
SOON AH WILL BE DONE
Traditional Spiritual
Soon ah will be done
awid de troubles ob de worl'
Goin' home to live with God.
I want to meet my mother
I'm goin' to live wid God.
No more weepin an' a wailing
I'm goin' to live wid God,
No more wailing, no more weeping.
I want to meet my Jesus
I'm goin' to live wid God,
In de morning, Lord,
I'm goin' to live wid God.

Presto avrò chiuso
con i tormenti del mondo
Tornerò a casa, a vivere con Dio
Voglio incontrare mia madre
Andrò a vivere con Dio.
Mai più pianti e lamenti
Andrò a vivere con Dio.
Mai più lamenti, mai più pianti.
Voglio incontrare il mio Gesù.
Andrò a vivere con Dio.
Al mattino
Andrò a vivere con Dio.

  1. Soon-Ah Will Be Done
    by William Dawson (1899-1990)

William Levi Dawson ran away from home at the age of thirteen to enter Tuskegee Institute, an institution of higher education for African-Americans in Alabama founded by Booker T. Washington in 1881. Supporting himself by manual labor, Dawson completed his education there in 1921. In 1931, he returned to Tuskegee to organize the School of Music, and for twenty-five years conducted the one hundred voice Tuskegee Choir. He was a recognized authority on the religious folk music of the American Negro, and his choral and orchestral arrangements are extensively performed.

'Soon-Ah will be Done' is a classic high-energy spiritual, the tempo and aggressiveness of which belies its seemingly morbid text of death and dying. That dichotomy suggests that this spiritual was one of those used as a “message” song prior to the Civil war by slaves.
